Reader’s Question:

Hello! I am planning to buy a used car next month here in Florida. If I get it insured, how do I know if I am getting a good deal? Do I look after the price or should I go for coverage?

People sometimes think that they save so much on auto insurance because of the cheap price they are paying, but in reality, they are not getting enough coverage or if they did, the coverage they are getting are not needed. Sometimes, it is worth looking at a quote which is a bit higher and actually discovering it’s a better deal than a cheaper quote. Confusing? There are common rules you need to follow in order to get the best deal, best deal meaning getting what you are paying for.

As always, research! Get details about the comparison website you plan on using for you quote comparison. Know how many insurance companies they get their source from. If they only source their quotes from an unknown insurance company, look elsewhere. What policies or coverage are included on the quotes? Always contact the actual company via online or phone when asking difficult queries.

Always compare quotes of the same coverage. This could be a time consuming task but it’s worth it. An example is don’t compare Fire and Theft coverage with third party coverage since it’s different. Another thing to take into consideration is “added features”. If an insurance company offers courtesy cars, this might be a better choice than a cheaper quote with no courtesy car option at all. But don’t forget to ask in what event or kind of incident will you get a courtesy car. Lastly, always check for hidden cost. Some auto insurance companies give quotes but to your surprise, it isn’t the final quote. There are times that these insurance companies will give you a certain amount but then you need to work in an excess. So, in the end, it is really easy to find cheap auto insurance. But don’t get deceived into thinking cheap is always best.
