Reader’s Question:

My daughter’s car insurance is really high and when I asked the insurers why, they told us that she is considered to be a high risk driver that’s why her car insurance is high. How can be someone labelled as a high risk driver even if the driver just received a license to drive in Missouri? And if this is the case, how can I possibly find affordable car insurance for high risk drivers?

Lydia

Independence, MO

It is not usually just those who have been convicted by a DUI or have multiple traffic violations that are considered to be high risk drivers but also those who are young or newly licensed drivers and also those who have risky cars like expensive or fast cars. Young drivers have a tendency to be reckless on the road so for security reasons of car insurance companies especially for high risk drivers they immediately put young drivers under the list of high risk drivers which means higher premiums. And for those who have expensive and fast cars they are also labelled as high risk for their car attracts thief or speeding tickets.

When finding for car insurance for high risk drivers in Missouri, you should not settle to a company that can give you the cheapest rate but instead settle to car insurance company that deals with these kinds of situations all the time. Car insurance for high risk drivers are not easy to find but you can always look for a car insurance company that has a good record in dealing or specializes with high risk drivers. You can always ask recommendations from family or friends, look in the yellow pages and the companies’ profile, search the net and you can find good car insurance for high risk drivers not the cheapest but affordable and best that fits your need.

Reader’s Question:

I’m trying to find senior auto insurance for my father, who has just turned 52. Isn’t he entitled to some discounts?

Hannah

Winston-Salem, NC

My father is about the same age as yours, Hannah, perhaps just a bit older. Anyway, from what I heard before, it’s not really automatic for all senior citizens of the U.S. to avail themselves of auto insurance discounts. However, if you are patient enough, do the shopping, and you will certainly find many auto insurance companies which offer special discounts to citizens over 50. Many of them are willing to slash your auto insurance premium by 5% to 10%, and that’s not bad at all.

Not only that, you may have your father take defensive driving courses. The safer he becomes as a driver, the more discounts he may receive. If he does well in a defensive driving course, many companies will offer him senior auto insurance with lower premiums. This is even mandatory in certain states. You may check out National Safety Council at www.nsc.com to find out how and where you can enroll in North Carolina.

The most important thing of course is to first get in touch with your auto insurance agent. You must confirm whether or not they have discounts and what would make your father eligible. At the end of the day, this is really up to the insurer. Good luck with the shopping.

Reader’s Question:

My father has been complaining to me that he had chosen the worst car insurance company and I can’t understand why even though he had given me a lot of reason and he always tells me to be careful in choosing a car insurance company. Are there any ways on how to select the best car insurance company here in New Jersey?

Phoebe

Jersey City, NJ

Most people are having the difficulty of choosing the right car insurance company for them especially if they have been experiencing a lot of troubles with their current car insurance companies because most people have chosen those companies because their family or friends have chosen it but then ever person have their own unique needs. Another thing is that they just pick the car insurance company that can give them the lowest possible premium.

Though a lot of people are usually satisfied with their insurers in New Jersey and have stayed with their insurers for many years when an accident happen and filed for a claim that is the only time that these car insurance holders complain. There are many complaints and most of the time the same complaints such as refused claims, slow adjustment, unsatisfactory payout on claims, feel forced to use insurer’s repair shop, poor repair quality and the likes. With all this complaints then it is really difficult to find the best car insurance company. But there is a simple way to at least consider doing before you choose like researching on consumer opinions or you can also browse in online forums and if you have the time, ask the repair shop managers for they will know if the company is easy to deal with.
